The team at Warwick Castle, a location steeped in a thousand years of history, sought to revitalise its image and attract a new, younger audience by hosting the 'Warwick Castle Live' event series. The series – created by a partnership between RG Live, AEG Presents, Merlin Entertainment and the Grade-1 listed Warwick Castle – is a dynamic blend of historical ambiance and modern festival music. The challenge was to create a branding system that resonated with both the historic essence of Warwick Castle and the vibrant energy of contemporary music festivals.
YeahNice crafted a flexible brand system for Warwick Castle Live, anchored by a striking brand icon. Drawing inspiration from the iconic battlements of Warwick Castle, we designed a W-shaped symbol that not only reflects the castle’s architectural features but also appeals to the modern music scene. This mark forms the cornerstone of a grid-based design system, offering a robust and versatile framework for all visual content.
Our design strategy included a reactive framing device that mirrors the expansive reach of the castle's towers and walls, adaptable for both static and animated applications. This framing device captures the dynamic, fortified appearance of the castle while maintaining a modern aesthetic suitable for a music festival. Typography was key in tying together the historic and contemporary elements. We chose Neuething Sans, a modern Sans Serif with bold details, to complement the structural simplicity of the icon. This typeface enhances the brand's visibility and flexibility, ensuring it stands out in content-rich environments, from digital platforms to physical event spaces. This strategic blend of historical homage and modern design not only elevated the Warwick Castle Live brand but also set the stage for the castle’s next thousand years.
